Our Horse Show!

Another great day at Sunnybrook Stables!! We had people from Drayton Valley, Athabasca, Bentley, Telfordville, Warburg, Thorsby, Calmar and of course Sunnybrook. Everyone had a lot of fun!! Ribbons were everywhere!
A surprise visit from Evelyn Pederson and Lloyd Rowe was greatly appreciated. We were to learn that Evelyn's great grandfather, Skjonsberg, was the first person to bring a curly into Canada. She advised us that he snared the horse at a water hole! What great stories they had to tell.
As has become the custom here at the Stables, the weather did not exactly co-operate. We had a high of 5 Celsius for the event, but at least it did not rain or snow.
We ran through 7 events and great fun was had by all. Patricia rode our 22 year old gelding to a first in the stakes race. This was only about the 6th time she has ridden. Brittany took her horse Honey to a first in the Pole Bending. Honey was trained here at the stables. Kyle took our 25 year old gelding to a first in the Trail and Pleasure classes. Kyle has been taking lessons for two years now. Samantha rode Angel for a first in the Egg and Spoon. She also has been taking lessons for two years now.
And then there was the barrels. 6 year old Megan was riding her newly purchased two year old curly gelding, SS Butch Cassidy while being led by her mom, Tracy. We really felt the ribbon should go to Tracy for her awesome stamina in running the barrels twice! The threesome did an excellent job of obtaining first place in this event. The toilet paper race was won by the team of Tracy and Gary on Tracy & Jordys two fine curlies SS Wrangler and Snowden.
Everyone was thrilled with the exposure to a show situation and absorbed the knowledge available on what to do and not to do at a show. Tips were given on the little things that help give you the edge in a show environment.
Thanks to everyone who made this a very fun day.
